OSS Systems Support Engineer

About the job
The OSS Systems Support Engineer is responsible for operations, maintenance and solving of technical problems in different types of OSS (Operations Support Systems) applications, such as Assurance, Fulfillment, Performance Management & Reporting or Mobile EMS (Element Management Systems) applications. Duties include performing all types of systems configuration, software upgrades and integrations. The OSS Systems Support Engineer will be responsible for managing implementation timelines and engineering issues with OSS Engineering team and will interact with the Global Network Operations Center teams. This function is a part of a cross-country Service Assurance organization in the EMEA region.
Main responsibilities:
1st /2nd level Incident Management for OSS Systems
Problem Management( partially)
Preventative Maintenance (regular tasks)
Customer specific implementation & configuration
24/7 on-call duties (on average 1 week per month)
Profile:
Basic requirements:
University degree in telecommunication, IT science or in a similar field.
2 years experience in systems administration covering IT and/or telco systems running under Unix (Solaris, HP-UX) or Linux systems.
Good knowledge of basic Unix services (i.e. DNS, NIS, Sendmail, NTP).
Working knowledge of scripting languages: Shell/Awk or Perl.
Good SQL or PL/SQL knowledge is required.
Oracle and/or Sybase database administration skills.
Familiarity with regular proactive and preventive maintenance (backup, alarm analysis, problem detection).
Good English language skills in speaking and writing.
Strong analytical, problem solving and decision making skills.
Proactive and methodical approach.
Ability to prioritize tasks and apply time management principles.
Stress tolerance.
Willingness to travel.
Additional requirements considered as a strong advantage:
Knowledge of 2G/3G mobile network technology.
Visual Basic programming skills.
